In June 2011 we had a rail trip to Lake Garda in Northern Italy. I've picked a small selection of pictures out of over 500 that I took. And I had fun identifying which particular canal it was in each of the Venice shots.

A rough map of the area. We stayed in Sirmione, on the tip of a peninsula in Lake Garda. We went to Verona, Milan and Malcesine by coach, and Venice by train.
The first trip we had was to Verona. This is the (slightly hazy) view over the city from Santuario della Madonna di Lourdes. It shows nicely that Verona is built in a loop of the River Adige.
Ponte Pietra (Stone Bridge) in Verona. The round building on the hill is the Santuario della Madonna di Lourdes where the previous picture was taken.
Church of Sant'Anastasia in Verona, with the tower of the Duomo behind.
'Romeo's House' in Verona.

Piazza Dei Signori in Verona overlooked by Lamberti Torre. The statue is of Dante.
Piazza delle Erbe, Verona.
Frescoes on the buildings around Piazza delle Erbe, Verona.
'Juliet's Balcony' and statue, Verona. (The balcony was put up in 1936.)
The corner of Piazza Bra with the edge of the Roman Arena.

Roman Arena, Verona. The arena is used for productions of opera, hence the stage and seats.
Torre dei Lamberti from Piazza Bra, Verona.
Ponte Scaligero (Scaliger Bridge) Verona. Reconstructed in 1949-51 after the original was destroyed by the Germans in 1945.
Duomo, Verona.
Our second trip was to Milan. We were dropped off at Castello Sforzesco (Sforza Castle).

We walked down from Castello Sforzesco to the church of Saint Maurice, which is a Renaissance church full of frescoes.
Saint Maurice has its own version of the Last Supper.
Back at Castello Sforzesco, this is inside the courtyard.
Needle and Thread sculpture, Piazzale Cadorna, Milan.
Santa Maria delle Grazie (Saint Mary of the Graces), Milan. This is where Leonardo da Vinci's 'Last Supper' is housed.

A Milan tram.
La Scala Theatre, Milan.
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Milan. A very upmarket shopping arcade.
Duomo, Milan.
Inside the Duomo, Milan. This is one of the largest cathedrals in the world.
